Albergaria-a-Velha is a land of traditions known for its watermills and bread.
This municipality has a strong connection with nature, allowing for walks on the magnificent banks of the Vouga River or in Pateira de Frossos, a lagoon system with unique biodiversity.
In Albergaria-a-Velha, several archaeological remains from the Neolithic period were discovered, proof that there has been a human presence in the region for a very long time.
Regarding its gastronomy, the municipality is known for its roasted suckling pig, “rojões”, eels, lamprey, and the famous “Turcos” – a sweet dish. In the handicrafts of the region, basketwork and embroidery stand out.
Every year, Albergaria-a-Velha receives hundreds of pilgrims who pass through to follow the Camino de Santiago, which is already part of its identity.
